Meet Delaney

I didn’t grow up in a “horse family”, but I’ve been a horse girl at heart since I was little. Ask my childhood friends. I was the “horse girl” who didn’t have any horses. But once I hit college, I decided it was time. I worked in a barn, signed up for western and english riding lessons, and never looked back.

Since then, my passion for training both horses and people grew in their own ways, at their own pace, and I am so blessed to get to be able to do what I love every day. Everyone’s story with horses is different. And sometimes, it can be difficult. I was blessed to have people in my life who made it a priority to help me in my journey, and now I want to do the same for others.

I believe that love and patience can do wonders for both horses and people, so those are the things I try to operate out of. I value treating horses like what they are - a privilege, and not a right. And I value treating people like what they are - loved by God.

My Story

Once my dad sat me down and asked me what I really wanted to do with my life, I realized that working with horses was just about the only thing that I wanted to do every day. I had already tried an office job. It wasn’t for me. And so, the search for a college that could equip me to live that kind of life began. Because of God and connections, WT was mentioned to us. Not only did they have an equestrian team that showed western and english, but they also had a degree that perfectly matched what I knew I needed. So now we were on a mission. I had only been riding for maybe 6 months, but by golly I was getting on that team.

And I did.

The time that I spent on that team will forever be some of the most memorable times of my life. I can’t tell you how much I learned - from how to ride horses better, to the flow of horse shows, to sportsmanship and horsemanship. Showing will always have a place in my heart, and I’d love to take a team of my own to show with Big 5 Horse Association!

And on top of everything I learned while on the Equestrian team, I also got to take classes at WT that taught me just about everything I ever wanted to know about how to run a business in the horse industry. I would take all of those classes again just for the fun of it.

AND THEN… I didn’t work with horses for awhile. Toughest years of my life so far, for many more reasons than 1. But during that time, I worked a lot with kids and teenagers, getting to know how their brains works, how they learn, and how to have patience.

AND THEN… I got to take a step toward my dream. I started teaching lessons. I knew pretty early on into my journey that I wanted to train horses. There was just something I loved so much about teaching and working with a horse to figure out something new. The way they work is fascinating. I also knew (before horses even became a reality for me) that I had a passion for teaching people - although I didn’t connect the two till years later.
